    Riga joins Paris climate initiative - Cities Leading the Way to Climate Neutrality

    RIGA, Feb 2 (LETA) - Riga Mayor Martins Stakis has signed the Paris climate declaration - Cities Leading the Way to Climate Neutrality, LETA was informed by the Riga City Council.

    The declaration has been renewed in honor of the anniversary of the 2015 Paris Agreement. By joining this declaration, Riga confirms that it is ready to address climate issues during this difficult time of the pandemic, pointing out that this is one of the ways to facilitate a healthier environment for the residents of Riga.

    The declaration stipulates that cities will make responsible climate policy decisions that will help limit climate change, as well as achieve climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest.

    A Climate Neutrality Committee has also been established at the Riga City Council, which coordinates climate and emission reduction goals, involving the structural units and agencies of the Riga City Council that are responsible for these areas.

    "Our goal is to make Riga the first climate-neutral city in the Baltic States and to be among the first 100 climate-neutral cities in Europe by 2030," emphasizes Stakis.
