Interior minister optimistic about building fence on Latvian-Belarusian border
RIGA, July 6 (LETA) - Interior Minister Kristaps Eklons (For Development/For) is optimistic about building a fence on the Latvian-Belarusian border.
In an interview with commercial TV3 television he said that he is satisfied with the temporary fence on the border, which is not that easy to overcome.
The process in relation to construction of permanent fence, including land measuring, deforestation, design and construction works that might commence in a couple of weeks, do not suggest that there could be any serious problems.
Eklons said that the fence construction process started quite recently, and everybody is aware of the current economic situation and possible price growth in construction. The government also had to make a decision on allocating additional funding.
As reported, Citrus Solutions and VIA have won contracts to build the next seven sections of Latvia's eastern border infrastructure. The total value of the contracts covering the seven sections is EUR 38.7 million, excluding value added tax (VAT).
