Riga, May 20 (LETA) - Construction works of the Jorgis Zemitana Bridge are progressing ahead of schedule, the Riga City Council's External Communications Department informed LETA.
The first stage of the reconstruction was completed at the end of April, during which the middle part of the bridge was renovated. The reconstruction of the right side of the bridge has now started.
The dismantling of the stairs of the Zemitana Bridge was also completed in early May, the construction of the stairs themselves will start shortly.
The intersection of Pernavas and Aleksandra Caka Street is currently undergoing asphalt concrete pavement replacement. This is being done mostly at night to minimize the impact on traffic.

The total cost of the bridge reconstruction will amount to EUR 24.2 million. Of this, the municipality's co-financing is planned at EUR 3.6 million. The Riga City Council also decided to borrow EUR 20.5 million to rebuild the bridge.
The bridge renovation could be completed by autumn 2026. After the bridge is rebuilt, accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and people with reduced mobility will be significantly improved.
