Half of new Covid-19 cases were registered in Riga and Daugavpils
RIGA, Dec 18 (LETA) - Of the 892 new Covid-19 cases registered in the past 24 hours, half were registered in Riga and Daugavpils, according to the data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Riga reported 341 new Covid-19 cases, and the capital city's 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases has reached 3,185.
The latest 109 cases in Daugavpils brings the 14-day cumulative number in Latvia's second largest city to 1,284. Rezekne registered 32 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total 14-day number to 190.
The largest number of active Covid-19 cases are registered in Riga (3,185), Daugavpils (1,284) and Jelgava (384).
Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has reached 491.4.
As reported, 892 new Covid-19 cases were registered in Latvia in the past 24 hours, while fifteen people died of the coronavirus, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center's (CDC) data.
Two of the latest Covid-19 victims were aged between 60 and 70, three were aged between 70 and 80, nine between 80 and 90 and one between 90 and 95 years. Latvia's total Covid-19 death toll rose to 409.
With 9,748 people tested for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the share of positive tests was 9.2 percent. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.
A total of 29,427 people in Latvia have so far tested positive for Covid-19. The total number of Covid-19 tests carried out in Latvia so far has reached 770,926.
According to LETA's estimates, Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases is 9,434, while the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents is 491.4.
