Local governments paid out EUR 3.8 million in housing benefits in January
Riga, March 2 (LETA) - In January this year, local governments paid a total of EUR 3,821,018 in housing allowances to Latvian residents, according to information provided by the Ministry of Welfare.
This was 10.4 percent less than in January 2025.
In January, 32,360 people received housing benefits.
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Welfare, housing allowance is one of the two basic social assistance benefits paid from the municipal budget.
The prerequisites for receiving the housing allowance are an assessment of the household's material situation by means of a declaration of means of subsistence and the presentation of invoices and other forms of proof of expenditure on housing to the municipality's social services.
