President and Jurmala mayor discuss future of Dzintari Concert Hall

RIGA, Jan 8 (LETA) - Jurmala Mayor Janis Ledins (Greens/Farmers) during a meeting with President Edgars Rinkevics on Thursday discussed the future of Dzintari Concert Hall, as Ledins told LETA.

During the meeting, Rinkevics and Ledins discussed Jurmala development matters, including the city's sustainable growth and infrastructure development. Cooperation between state and municipal institutions was also discussed, as well as current challenges and future priorities.

Ledins informed Rinkevics about that the possibility of transforming Dzintari Concert Hall into an agency or institution.

It is currently unknown when a decision will be taken regarding the concert hall as an audit is currently being conducted at the concert hall, after which further action will be considered.

Jurmala City Council earlier did not support candidates nominated for Dzintari Concert Hall's board members and ordered an assessment of the municipality's shareholding in the concert hall.

After an analysis of the candidates' vision for development of the concert hall, Jurmala City Council concluded that, without substantial funding from the municipality's budget, strategic goals set by Dzintari Concert Hall could be achieved.

According to a report by Jurmala City Council's representatives, posted on Dzintari Concert Hall's website, financing from the municipality's budget accounts for almost 40 percent of the concert hall's revenue, and without this support the concert hall is unable to operate with a profit and fulfil its statutory functions.

The need to mitigate financial impact of the municipality's budget was also pointed out in the 2024 audit of Dzintari Concert Hall by audit firm Sandra Dzerele Un Partneri.

According to Firmas.lv, Dzintari Concert Hall is wholly owned by Jurmala City Council. In 2024, the concert hall posted EUR 2.1 million in turnover and a profit of EUR 123,600.
