Several Russian and Belarusian citizens dismissed from Riga municipal companies

Riga, Feb 5 (LETA) - Several Russian and Belarusian citizens have been dismissed from the capital companies owned by the Riga municipality, the municipality informed LETA.

In compliance with the requirements of the National Security Law, Rigas Udens water utility terminated employment relations with five Russian citizens.

One of them was a plumber in the water supply and sewerage network service, and four were operators of the biological treatment plant Daugavgriva, one of whom was at the retirement age.

Rīgas Siltums heating utility has identified the employees subject to the restrictions of the law. Their number is said to be small. Consultations with the security services have been initiated for some employees who are highly qualified specialists in engineering fields and cannot be quickly replaced, the municipality explained.

The municipality promises to provide information as soon as final decisions have been taken.

Riga Maternity Hospital does not employ Russian or Belarusian citizens, Riga Hospital No. 2 is still collecting information and will make it available later, while Riga Hospital No. 1 is an outpatient facility and is not a critical infrastructure object.

Also, Rigas Satiksme public transport company and Rigas Mezi forest manager are not qualified as critical infrastructure.

According to LETA's archive, last June the Saeima adopted amendments to the National Security Law, which prohibits Russian and Belarusian citizens from being employed or providing services in critical infrastructure.

Russian or Belarusian nationals will be able to carry out work in critical infrastructure exceptionally with a separate authorization from the national security authority.
