Guest nights spent at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments up 6.7% in nine months
RIGA, Nov 14 (LETA) - According to the Central Statistical Bureau data, in September 2025 arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments totaled 246,800, which is 6.2 percent more than September 2024, while the number of nights spent by visitors at tourist accommodation establishments totaled 422,300, which is 7.4 percent more than in September 2024.
As the high season came to an end, in September 2025, compared to August, the number of visitors has decreased by 37.2 percent (the number of residents reduced by 40.4 percent, but the number of non-residents by 35.1 percent), the number of nights spent by them went down by 40.2 percent (the number of nights spent by residents reduced by 45.1 percent, but the number of nights spent by non-residents by 37.2 percent).
The number of non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 154,700 in September 2025 (62.7 percent of all arrivals), which is 7.5 percent more than in September 2024. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to September last year, has grown by 9.7 percent and comprised 275,900. Non-residents on average spent 1.8 nights at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.8 nights also in September last year).
The majority of non-resident visitors came from Lithuania (20,300), Germany (16,700), Estonia (13,400), Finland (10,400), United Kingdom (9,200), Poland (7,700), the US (6,900), Spain (6,600), Sweden (6,000) and Norway (4,700).
The number of visitors from Serbia (5.3 times), Turkey (4.1 times) and Greece (2.5 times) has increased significantly.
The majority of non-residents stayed in Riga (74.5 percent), which was followed by Jurmala (7.8 percent), Marupe municipality (3.5 percent), Liepaja (2.6 percent), Sigulda municipality (1.8 percent), and Cesis municipality (1.3 percent).
In September 2025 tourist accommodion establishments hosted 92,000 guests, which is a year-over-year increase of 4.2 percent. Resident visitors spent 146,500 nights at the establishments (3.3 percent more), and the average duration of resident stay was 1.6 nights (1.6 nights also a year ago).
Mostly residents stayed in Riga (31.7 percent), Jurmala (8.3 percent), Liepaja (5.8 percent), Cesis municipality (5.1 percent), Daugavpils (4.1 percent), Kuldiga municipality (2.9 percent) and Tukums municipality (2.8 percent).
In September, average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation in Latvia was 48.7 percent (a year-over-year rise of 2.7 percentage points), 63.3 percent - in Riga (a year-over-year increase of 3.1 percentage points).
In the third quarter of 2025, the number of non-resident and resident visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 1 million, which is 3.1 percent more than in the third quarter 2024. As compared to the third quarter of 2024, the number of nights spent by visitors has risen by 4.6 percent and comprised 1.9 million nights.
In the third quarter of 2025 the number of non-resident visitors comprised 628,300, which is 3.7 percent more than in the third quarter of 2024. The number of nights spent by them has risen by 6.5 percent and comprised 1.2 million. In turn, the number of resident visitors comprised 416,900, which is 2.1 percent more than in the third quarter of 2024. Number of nights spent by them comprised 707,600 - 1.5 percent more, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
In the nine months of 2025 the number of visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 2.2 million, which is 4.9 percent more than in the first nine months of 2024. The number of nights spent by visitors has grown by 6.7 percent and comprised 4 million nights. Out of all visitors hosted 1.3 million or 59.5 percent were non-residents, but 910,900 or 40.5 percent were residents.
